Green Arrow #27 – Chris Condon, Writer; Montos, Artist; Adriano Lucas, Colorist
Ray – 9/10
Ray: This arc has introduced one of the most intriguing new villains in the Arrowverse in a while, in Crimson Arrow. This twisted killer targest drug dealers and users, injecting them with Crimson Dust – a deadly narcotic that sends them into an overdose. He attacked Roy Harper, mistaking him for one of the skells (or did he know about his past?), leaving Ollie’s son fighting for his life and Green Arrow out for revenge. In this issue, Ollie tracks the city’s drug scene until he finds a man willing to give him information – but it doesn’t come easily. It’s not long before the villain shows up and tries to silence the man permanently, and Ollie is forced to choose between saving one life and taking a killer off the streets. Green Arrow doesn’t have much of a rogues’ gallery, to the point it’s almost a running joke, so this twisted killer with a cruel view on what the world needs is the perfect addition.

However, this issue’s best segment focuses on Roy and Lian. At the end of last issue, Roy went missing – but it’s not anything sinister. As Lian tears around the hospital trying to find her father, she eventually locates him on the roof, where he’s trying to figure out his next move. Roy and Lian haven’t had too much time to focus on their relationship since both of them returned from their temporary deaths (hey, kids, comics!), but this issue does some brilliant things delving into Roy’s feelings about his drug use in the past and what drove him to use in the first place. Lian, the one person who has never judged him for it and never saw him at his worst, is a great person for him to bounce off. As Roy recovers and Ollie continues chasing the villain, I’m hoping he gets back into fighting shape by the end of the issue and is able to play a key role in getting this villain off the city’s back.
