Ray: DC KO has led to all hands on deck, and some decisions made by the heroes that would have seemed unthinkable only months ago. That includes the team creating what’s essentially its own version of the Suicide Squad – a group of time-displaced heroes with no world to go back to and a ticking clock over their heads. Ranging from Batman Beyond, to Kingdom Come Alan Scott, to less well-regarded characters like Guy Gardner’s Warrior incarnation and Superman’s electric blue period, they’ve been sent to infiltrate Hell, where the demon king Neron resides – and has been manipulating the world above. Neron is back up to his old tricks of cutting deals with Z-list villains to turn them into elite threats, but now he might be giving them something even more valuable – passage out of this doomed realm. And that means he’s the current biggest threat outside of Darkseid.

One of the most impressive things about this issue is the way Dan Mora has transformed his art, as the heroes descend into hell. The first threat they encounter is the Demons Three, an infamous trio of henchmen – all of which are sadistic monsters who toy with the DC heroes and cause several of the doomed team members to sacrifice their lives to provide enough time to get away. This nearly sends one of the more naive members of the team into a breakdown, just in time for the next test – a twisted little girl demon who combines sadistic puzzles with horrific bugs. This is a full-on horror comic in ways Mora rarely gets to do, and the subplots play into that as well – even Z-list villains like Rainbow Raider have become deadly, creating new powers that allow his colors to affect emotions. This is a great, creepy side story that continues to expand the world of DC Ko.
