Los Monstruos #1 Writer: James Robinson Artist: Jesus Merino Colorist: K.J. Diaz Letterer: Jim Campbell Cover Artist: Jesus Merino
It is 1950, and all your nightmares are alive and thriving. Similar to Marvel Werewolf by Night, Los Angeles city has been renamed Los Monstruos (The monsters) because, suddenly, all of them have become real.
By all of them we mean Vampires, Werewolves, Mummies, Swamp folk… all subject to capitalism, some dwelling in luxury and some living in poverty. And of course, there is a police department, a vampiric Night Shift, and private investigators, such as Perry Cutter, our hero.
And this perfect sample of a noir detective werewolf has a brand new case.
He has to find a former human, now a vampiress, and for that, he must meet crime-boss and pyramid casino owner Ramses-Ra, the mummy of so many ancient horror films.
Merino is a master artist. This is a beautiful homage to the EC horror, crime, and fantasy comics. The dialogues feel just right, and the colorist KJ Diaz has done an outstanding job.
I have high hopes for this title.
