Earlier this year, I was sent the KUXIU S2 power bank to try out. It’s a magnetic solid-state battery with a 5000mAh capacity that can charge either via its USB-C port or wirelessly on supported devices. It’s available from KUXIU’s webstore for $49.99 (and you can currently use the coupon BLACK25 for a 10% discount), and comes in either a black or titanium color.

According to KUXIU, they believe the S2 is the the world’s first semi-solid-state battery power bank, making it safer to take onto airplanes since it is puncture-resistant and less prone to overheating. While I did not personally abuse it as shown in this video in my own tests, I have tried out the charging and sent it with my wife on a recent plane trip and she didn’t encounter any issues traveling with it.

In the nearly 3 months we’ve been using the S2, I’m nowhere near testing the claim that it can support up to 1,000 full charge cycles (compared to the 300–500 cycles of similar power banks), but I can confirm that it plays nicely with the iPhone 16 Plus. It snaps onto the back of the iPhone and starts charging automatically, and while it does add some weight and thickness, you can still easily continue to use your phone while charging wirelessly. My own phone is an iPhone 13 mini, which is a little bit narrower than the S2, so it feels a little stranger to use—more like holding a battery with a phone stuck to it than the other way around.
Visit the KUXIU website for more information or to check out their other charging products.
