Green Lantern #28 – Jeremy Adams, Writer; V. Ken Marion, Artist; Romulo Fajardo Jr, Colorist
Ray – 9/10
Ray: In the aftermath of the Starbreaker Supremacy, with John Stewart still missing and presumed dead, the rest of the Corps are getting back to business. The cover of this issue makes it look like a quiet Hal-and-Carol spotlight, but it’s anything but. It starts on Oa, with the Corps putting things back together and Guy researching the millions-of-years-old Book of Oa. There’s just one problem – if it was written millions of years ago, why is Hal Jordan’s name suddenly printed in it? Hal, in the middle of escorting a Z-list space villain who tried to take advantage of the chaos off Earth, is called back to Oa and finds himself in the middle of Kyle testing his White Lantern powers and nearly killing Superboy in the process. It seems like everyone in the Corps has something going on in this run, which is a big plus for a team book. But when Hal reaches the book, something very strange happens.

I always enjoyed the way DC finds creative ways to tease upcoming plotlines, dating back to things like Booster Gold’s chalkboard. This issue has Hal pass out from contact with the book and have some very surreal and disturbing visions. The last event is just over, but we’re already on to the next one – with Krona having infiltrated the Corps, piecing himself back together slowly and impersonating Hal Jordan – or at least trying to, as he’s far from complete now. The Guardians are also back, and while they’re not evil this time, they’re definitely hiding something. This issue ends with a great quick segment for Hal and Carol before Hal heads off for a team-up in Star City, but I am a little surprised Nathan’s fate and that whole drama didn’t seem to come up here at all. The Green Lantern corner of the line seems to be untouched by events – at the moment – but it continues to be a great read every month.
