Welcome to the Playmobil Playland, where we take a peek inside those impressive blue boxes and see what treasures await within. Sometimes we’ll have step-by-step photos walking you through assembly, maybe we’ll discuss and review a particular set or theme, or maybe we’ll have an unboxing video.
Playmobil has launched a new line called Funstars with four new sets. Each set includes a figure and a pull-back race car. The race car bodies have modular points for accessories to attach and the chassis and bodies are also interchangeable, so the cars can be customized using pieces from the other sets for a ton of customizability!

Ease of Build
On a scale of 1–5, these playsets themselves are all an average 1. The only thing that posed any challenge to the kids was putting the tires onto the wheels because they do take a little extra finger strength and dexterity to get on properly. Everything else is super easy and straightforward t put together.
Coolest Features
The first thing that stood out to me as I’m always keeping an eye out for representation, is that all four figures have a different skin tone.
As I mentioned briefly in the introduction above, the coolest thing about Funstars is that because the car chassis and bodies are all the same mold (but in various colors), everything is customizable and interchangeable between the sets allowing for a lot of extra play just from tricking out the cars. Every set has a unique set of accessories along with different wheel styles allowing for not only customizing the look of the cars but also how they will perform on different surfaces (hard floor versus carpet, etc).
And finally, Funstars are really as fun as they are because they are pull-back racers! I was pleasantly surprised at how much oomph the pull-back mechanism had – these cars will launch across the room and plow through small obstacles. And of course, the kids demanded a race to see which car was the fastest. I recommended doing them in pairs, the winner racing the next until they had a final winner. Turns out, the Wrestler was by far the fastest of them all. Check out the quick video to see our races! After the videos, we did a few more tests (especially since my son wasn’t convinced his sister wasn’t cheating some), including racing them on carpet, and the Wrestler came out on top every time.
The last thing I wanted to mention about these sets is that almost all of the parts (except a few very tiny bags) come in recycled plastic packaging that is much more likely to also be recyclable in your neighborhood. Plastic waste is always a concern of ours, and I’m happy to see Playmobil’s continued dedication to reducing waste.
