This is a grab-bag of different topics, authors, places and celebrations. A glimpse into a diverse, wonderful world, it includes non-fiction books, too!
Let’s start with early readers:
Short Stories by Silvia Borando (Author)
This is a compilation intended for early readers, filled with corny jokes that combine the text with the images for a hilarious effect.
The ten encounters pair unexpected animals, with often a single punch line. The playfulness and silliness run high, and I suspect it would be re-read often by the intended young reader.
In Borando’s few words and simple illustrations, there is ample room for surprise, irony, and chuckles.
Short Stories s available since September 02, 2025.

Up next, two masters at work:
Hansel and Gretel by Stephen King (Author), Maurice Sendak (Illustrated by)
Stephen King was invited to re-tell this fairy tale, using Maurice Sendak’s illustrations. Those illustrations were, in turn, meant for the theatrical adaptation.
They have a special quality: the witch that devours children, and the house made out of candy are both eerie and menacing, so that is why you get to have a King among your children’s bookshelves.
I also have another Grimm adaptation of this fairy tale, made by an author I can no longer name. I think that Hansel and Gretel make for great storytelling because the essence of the story is respected: cruel things can happen to children, and only cunning and resourcefulness will help them to survive.
Hansel and Gretel is on sale since September 02, 2025.

And now, mayhem at the museum:
Mayhem at the Museum by Hannah Brückner (Author), Laura Watkinson (Translated by)
Yuri goes to the museum and knocks off a huge brachiosaurus skeleton. Something that we all fantasize about doing! And, the only way to sort out this massive mayhem is to ask for help…
Maybe the answer to the mess will not be what you expect. Brückner has a definite idea about what the mayhem result should look like.
NorteSur is also releasing a Spanish edition, translated by Maria José Ferrada and Silke Kleemann. I am sharing the Spanish cover.
Mayhem at the Museum is on sale from September 23, 2025.

This is another of my top reads of the year:
All the Stars in the Sky by Art Coulson (Author), Winona Nelson (Illustrated by)
The Cherokee craftwork embedded in this book is one of the most beautiful combinations I’ve had the pleasure of seeing. This, paired with the positive message of gadugi, that everyone shines better if they work together, was an obvious win.
Clay wants to earn a star in class, but her grandmother disagrees with the idea of shining as a lonely “star of the week” at school.
His elisi believes that not one person is more important than his family and his community. The conversation is not an imposition; it’s a dialogue between different world views and the wisdom hidden in this idea: individuality comes to nothing if you cannot help others.
All the Stars in the Sky is on sale since September 16, 2025.

Up next, a delicious mystery:
Whodonut? A Holiday Mystery by Josh Funk (Author), Brendan Kearney (Author)
Miss Maple has published a book, and Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast have been invited to the very first reading. The story is awash with puns and word plays about mysteries and the world of Agatha Christie, (Agatha Crispy) master crime and mystery novelist of the 19th Century.
When the lights go out and the book goes missing, everyone becomes a suspect. As the party splits up to search the mansion, Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast team up. Follow the clues alongside the mighty toast friends… find the culprit.. and save the book reading!
This is the seventh book in the series that honors Agatha Christie in pancake form!

Now, a book about a marvelous artist:
Gaudí–Architect of Imagination by Susan B. Katz (Author), Linda Schwalbe (Illustrated by)
Barcelona is one of the most coveted tourist spots in Spain, a port filled with beautiful churches, tiles, facades, and organic shapes unlike any other city in the world.
Most of them were designed by Antoni Gaudí. The son of a Catalan blacksmith, he became a world-famous architect. Young Gaudí couldn’t attend school. He had polio and could not walk, using a donkey as a means of transport.
His time was spent in nature, which he would later call his great teacher. Even during his training as an architect in Barcelona, his teachers were puzzled, wondering: Is he a genius or a fool? Many considered his unusual ideas eccentric, sometimes even crazy. Gaudí was ahead of his time.
There is another beautiful book about another slice of Gaudís life by Pau Estrada: A stroll with Gaudí. He became quite the eccentric at the end of his time, but thanks to him and his vision, Barcelona is truly special.
NorteSur is also releasing a Spanish edition, translated by Susan B. Katz. I am sharing the Spanish cover.
Gaudí–Architect of Imagination is on sale since June 07, 2022.

Finally, an amazing display of Human History:
Timeline (Revised Edition) A Visual History of Our World by Peter Goes (Author)
This is a beautiful display of the history of our evolution, from mollusks to mass extinction, to the first humans, to increasingly complex societies. Key events in world history are presented, written, and designed by Peter Goes.
I would argue that it can be as appealing to kids as to adults, the information that goes alongside the stunning visual phases of our journey in the planet is both scientifically accurate and insightful. There are numerous political, cultural, and historical snippets throughout the book.
Vikings, Aztecs, the Gardens of Babylon, the Egyptian constructions, the future… Everything feels right until we start with the present (the last illustration). Of course, as we are immersed in it, it is difficult to foresee what will be important and what will remain. I don’t blame Peter; I blame us. We never know what we are doing next.
This is a fascinating timeline that I would love to see transformed into classroom posters.
