Usagi Yojimbo- Ten Thousand Plums # 3- The Flowers of Edo

Usagi Yojimbo: Ten Thousand Plums # 3: Writer, Artist, Cover Artist: Stan Sakai Colorist: Hi-Fi Colour Design

The vengeful Kitsune explains to Usagi why she is attacking everybody. Her tragedy is too great; the sin the villagers have committed could not be forgiven.

Usagi will manage to defeat her, but her burning body will take with it a great part of the trees, and a terrible fire will consume her revenge.

I laughed when the cruel bounty hunter Gen decides that keeping up with Usagi means too much adventure!

The Usagi post-scriptum for this issue is about the fear of fire in Japanese culture. Did you know it was called The Flowers of Edo and was feared as much as tsunamis?

Or that Tokyo itself burned to the ground forty-nine times between 1603 and 1867?

To this day, you can see buckets filled with water outside temples and buildings, meant for bokayoi, fire prevention.
